Eoly, Parkwind and Fluxys have announced that they have agreed to cooperate to build an industrial power-to-gas facility in Belgium. The companies declared that this new facility could have a capacity of 25 megawatts.
How did this partnership come about?
Eoly is a renewable energy producer and is part of the Colruyt Group, Parkwind is a company specializing in offshore wind farms while Fluxys is an offshore company that manages Belgian gas infrastructure.
On April 24, 2018, these three flagship companies agreed to entered into partnership with the goal of constructing an industrial scale electricity generating facility.
The new facility will be able to convert green electricity into green hydrogen. The gas can then be transported and stored in existing gas infrastructure in Belgium. The final step in the process will involve the stored gas being distributed on the market as fuel or raw material low carbon.
A project that will boost the hydrogen economy in Belgium
Fluxys CEO Pascal De Buck said the goal of the project is to promote the use of green gas as a complementary source of renewable energy or as a substitute for sun and wind energy, while also supporting more natural gas consumption.
It is also expected that the construction of this facility will allow the partners to explore the different possibilities of energy supply with the target of compensating for the variability of energy production by wind energy (offshore) and to provide support services to the country’s electricity grid.
