Schaeffler, the German manufacturing group, has been awarded Smart Technology Innovation of the Year at the ASEAN Wind Future Awards 2021 for PREMESY, their preload measurement system.  The Schaeffler Group was founded in Germany in 1946 and initially manufactured rolling element bearings for the automotive and aerospace industries. In more recent times the group  has focused its  manufacturing processes on CO₂-efficient drives, electric mobility, Industry 4.0, digitalisation and renewable energy.   The ASEAN Wind Future Awards is one of the largest onshore and offshore wind energy events in Southeast Asia and was conceived to encourage the development of wind energy both globally and within the Southeast Asia region in particular.  With the development of renewable energy growing across the Asia-Pacific region, Schaeffler’s PREMESY Preload Measurement System was the deserving winner of the ASEAN Wind Future Awards as it is the only wind energy system which monitors the bearing preload during the mounting and operation of bearings in a wind turbine system. The incorporated monitoring system delivers many benefits to end-users such as maximizing service life, lowering maintenance costs and helping manufacturers avoid turbine failures.   David Nevin, President, Industrial Southeast Asia & Aerospace at Schaeffler Asia Pacific, accepted the award on behalf of Schaeffler, saying “We are proud that PREMESY has been recognised at the ASEAN Wind Future Awards, affirming our contributions to building a cleaner and sustainable future. Winning the Innovation Excellence Award further solidifies our commitment towards innovation, agility, and efficiency - three key strategic priorities that Schaeffler Group has in its Roadmap 2025.” The award for the PREMESY preload management system is a major recognition of Schaeffler’s strategic investment in supporting renewable sources of energy. Schaeffler’s commitment to renewable sources of energy is underlined by Astraios, its high-performance bearing test rig, which has been designed to explore wind turbine systems.   Volker Erberich, Head of Industry 4.0 at Schaeffler Asia Pacific, outlined the importance of sustainable energy to the group, stating “Schaeffler brings its technological expertise and comprehensive product and system solutions portfolio to make energy generation from renewable sources like Wind, economic and reliable. Our focus on the renewable energy sector also plays an essential role in our sustainability strategy.”
