Industrial cybercrime – Industry 4.0 is now facing a cyber threat of an industrial nature. In March 2026, security reports highlighted a growing sophistication in attacks specifically targeting OT (Operational Technology) networks. The systems that control production machinery are no longer isolated; their increasing connectivity with traditional IT networks creates vulnerabilities that cybercriminals exploit to cripple entire production lines or steal intellectual property.

In the face of these risks, industrial data security is becoming a key strategic differentiator. Companies are adopting multi-layered defence approaches, combining defensive AI with rigorous network segmentation. Architecture audits are no longer limited to servers but now extend to PLCs and collaborative robots. Compliance with international standards, such as IEC 62443, has become a prerequisite for reassuring business partners regarding business continuity.

Beyond technology, it is the governance of personal and operational data that is being strengthened. Industrial cybersecurity is no longer seen as a cost centre, but as insurance against devastating production stoppages. The establishment of detection and response centres (XDR/MDR) tailored to the industrial environment enables a response within minutes, thereby minimising the financial and reputational impact of intrusion attempts.
