52.83 Gigawatts of solar energy installed in China in 2017

Recently, China's National Energy Administration published its official statistics on solar energy. It revealed that in China, 52.83 Gigawatts of solar energy were installed in 2017. Recall that in 2016, China installed a total solar photovoltaic capacity of about 34.2 Gigawatts. This result was well above the expectations of analysts at the time. For 2017, Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) predicted that China could install more than 30 Gigawatts. However, in the first half, the country had already registered nearly 24.4 Gigawatts. According to official figures for 2017, a new solar capacity of 52.83 GW has been recorded, bringing the cumulative solar capacity of the country to 130.25 GW, representing 7.3% of the national electricity generation capacity . In addition, China's solar energy has increased by 53% compared to 2016. For the first time in history, China has installed more clean energy than thermal energy. According to Asia Europe Clean Energy Associates (AECEA), the country has installed about 19 to 20 GW of distributed solar energy, four times more power from one year to the next.
