Carrefour Supply Chain - ensuring delivery despite Covid-19

The coronavirus crisis has given rise to many logistical problems, not least in the organization of agricultural donations. Following the closure of open-air markets and catering establishments, farmers were in effect forced to find other means of disposing of their goods to avoid throwing away their unsold products, . Farmers were therefore able to donate their products to food aid associations. The latter are faced with logistical problems and an organization of their human resources. To facilitate the organization of these agricultural donations, Carrefour Supply Chain was contacted by SOLAAL, an association facilitating the link between food aid associations and donors in the agricultural sector. Local teams took on the responsibility for organizing several logistics sponsorship deliveries, even though they were extremely busy due to increased demand and activity in their own stores. The products were then transported to the warehouses of food aid associations from the farms. This sponsorship has made it possible to make 23 deliveries from the start of lockdown and more than a dozen delivery requests are still being organized. The responsiveness of the national and regional teams made it possible to donate a total of 50 tonnes of vegetables, dairy products and fruit. Being fresh, these products are particularly perishable.
