Mercedes make record-breaking continental EV run

Mercedes, the German-based automotive giant, is continuing to push itself to the forefront of electric vehicle technology with its new EQXX vehicle which is currently undergoing production tests. As part of these tests, the EQXX recently completed an EV world record 750 mile trip from Germany to England.
The EQXX journey began in Sindelfingen, Germany and reached its final destination over 1200 km (750 miles) away at the world famous Silverstone race track in England. Not only did the EQXX manage to cover this distance without any problem, the car still had sufficient battery power to cover a further 140km, thus extending the range of EV cars by a hitherto unthinkable margin.
Prior to the EQXX's record-breaking trek, the current record range for production EVs was held by the Lucid Air which has a range of 520 miles while the Tesla Model S, by comparison, has a range of 405 miles. It remains to be seen if the new breed such as Tesla and Lucid can respond to the gauntlet thrown down by their venerable rival.
The major reason put forward for the incredible range achieved by the EQXX is its extremely sleek and aerodynamic design with the EQXX boasting a coefficient of drag of just 0.17 which is almost half that of a modern sedan car and considerably lower than even the Tesla Model S which has a 0.24 coefficient.
Merecedes also revealed that the 117 solar cells on the roof of the EQXX helped the car to save 43 miles of range on its cross-continental journey. However it should be noted that the EQXX solar system is essentially designed to power accessories such as the sound system, lighting, ventilation and the dashboard display.
Unfortunately for potential customers, the EQXX is not yet available to buy but it seems only a matter of time before the production of the series is green-lit.
